Stress

Stress is:

“a feeling that is created when you react to certain events. It’s the body’s way of rising to a challenge and preparing to meet a tough situation with focus, strength, stamina, and heightened alertness” (Reach Out.com).

It is normal to adjust to a certain amount of stress, whether at work or at home.

We are built to do that.

But if our workload suddenly intensifies in some way – or if an unexpected and distressing life event occurs (such as illness, or the death of a loved one for example), stress can quickly becomes a problem.

When we become over-stressed it can start to affect how we cope with our day-to-day activities.

The psychological and emotional signs that a person is becoming over-stressed could include:
– increased irritability,
– feeling anxious,
– avoiding people,
– crying,
– moodiness/feeling frustrated with things that normally not frustrating,
– low self esteem/ self confidence,
– anxiety attacks,
– depression, or feelings of sadness.

Many people find that talking with a professional who is objective and empathetic is a helpful way to process what they are experiencing.

It also helps people find coping strategies.
