Grief & Loss
We grieve in response to loss.
In fact grieving is a normal and a natural response to loss. And it can affect every part of our life.
Mostly we associate grief with bereavement but actually the process of grieving can apply to any loss: the loss of a job, relationship, health for example.
The grieving process is varied and different for each of us and can come in waves.
Typical symptoms of grief are: experiencing intense feelings such as
- sadness
- anger
- anxiety
- disbelief
- panic
- relief or even
- numbness
Grief may affect our thinking so that we may believe we will never get over it.
For some people, it can take many years to recover to the point of acceptance of their loss.
However, when grief causes you to be unable to carry out daily tasks, you may find it helpful to talk to a professional;
– someone who can assist you to process the feelings surrounding the loss you have experienced.
